OBTAINING YOUR LICENSE

The first step in your new career begins by obtaining your real estate license. All real estate associates must be licensed by the State of Texas. In order to obtain licensure, sponsorship by a Texas broker with an active license is necessary. Additional requirements include standard age, residency and educational background.

Educational courses include real estate principles and legal practices, which involves specifics of contracts and other real estate documents, as well as state laws regarding ownership and transfer of real estate, state regulations and financing. These courses also cover agency relationships, fiduciary responsibility and federal and state laws concerning fair housing and consumer protection.

Upon completion of required course study, applicants must take a written examination administered by the State of Texas. The Texas Real Estate Commission then issues real estate licenses to all applicants who have passed the exam and have met the other state requirements.
